All the contacts on this site
are Members of the Breed Clubs and have been involved in Irish Wolfhounds for many years.
They do not necessarily breed that often themselves, but all have the welfare of the breed as their paramount concern and are happy to offer help and advice on the breed whether you are a prospective owner or already have a Wolfhound.
We may be aware of litters available and will only put forward breeders who are Breed Club Members which means they have agreed to breed to the accepted Code of Conduct for the breed as laid down by the Breed Clubs and the Kennel Club.
However, we do reserve the right not to include breeders who are, or appear to be, breeding purely on a commercial basis as this goes against the spirit of this website.
The Code of Conduct can be viewed in full on the websites of the Breed Clubs at http://www.irishwolfhoundclub.org.uk/code.html and http://www.irishwolfhoundsociety.co.uk/codeofethics.htm
But some of the key points are:
· Breeders heart test both parents before breeding;
· Will only breed a bitch when old enough i.e. 2 years;
· Will have no more than three litters from a bitch;
· Will screen puppies for Livershunt
· Ensure that all homes are vetted and puppies leave the breeder with an appropriate diet sheet and advice on rearing.
Of course, there can never be any guarantees when buying a puppy. You must always do your own research when contacting a breeder and as a puppy buyer, you are encouraged to ask whether they have adhered to the above points. Breeding to an accepted standard is an indication that the breeder is doing their best for the health and happiness of both the mum and her puppies.
